Content marketing entails the consistent sharing of content that’s both valuable and relevant to a clearly defined audience.
Core objectives include:
Content marketing revolves around pulling people in via great content rather than pushing out generic advertisements as per traditional advertising.
It, therefore, has a better ROI but may take longer to achieve than conventional marketing. It also closely aligns with SEO, as Google rewards high-quality content that provides value to readers.
In DeFi especially, the building has outpaced content creation, and having a solid content marketing strategy is critical for branding and growth.

While similarities exist between traditional content marketing and DeFi content marketing, there are many important distinctions as well.
Many so-called Web3 agencies have sprung up since the last bull market, the reality is that few thoroughly understand the DeFi market and how it differs. This is why Multichain Media exists.
Similarities | Differences |
---|---|
Valuable Content: should be shared on a consistent basis to the right audience. | Pseudonymity: Data is more sparse, and certain strategies such as email marketing are not usually possible. |
Credibility & Trust: both aim to build brand loyalty and credibility with the audience. | Complexity: DeFi can get overly complex very quickly. A focus on educational resources is needed, and content should be simplified through clear and concise language, as well as through adequate examples and graphics. |
Format: blogs, articles, videos, eBooks, podcasts, AMAs, and so on provide value. | Advertising: DeFi advertising is banned by Google, whereas traditional content marketing may be complemented by paid ads. |
Social Media: Both rely on social media for amplification, although the optimal channels may differ. | Channels: DeFi content marketing tends to be more effective through channels such as Twitter and Discord. |
Strategy: both require well-planned strategies. A skilled marketing department and/or professional guidance are very important. | Demographics: DeFi is global in nature, whereas regular content marketing may target a certain type of user, such as U.S. based and 21-30. This has important implications. |

This is a very broad question with immense opportunity for those that figure it out. In fact, it’s so important that I’m releasing a free eBook shortly that provides a ton of relevant info.
For now, here are a few suggestions:
a) Establish Target Audience: who actually uses your project? This is the starting point that will set you on the right path. Next, you can think through where they hangout and how you might best target them. If you were a derivatives protocol, then potential users may be using other DeFi protocols, or they might be regular traders interested in crypto, but unsure of how or why to start.
b) Distribution Strategy: there’s no point in investing in good content if no one can find it. Twitter is an obvious first choice, and content pieces should be turned into engaging Tweet threads that are retweeted by key management on your team in order to maximize reach. Discord, Reddit, third-party websites, partnerships, and so on should also be leveraged. Paying for DeFi PR distribution is another strategy that we help with, providing great visibility and high-quality backlinks.
c) Simplify: many of us take for granted just how complex DeFi really is. When I first began studying it myself, I would spend Friday evenings going into the crypto “rabbit hole” where each article left me with more questions than answers. Most of the world is new to crypto, let alone DeFi, and making content as easy to digest as possible makes your protocol all the more accessible.

During my time as a Sales Engineer, he worked on two products:
a) USD-backed stablecoin infrastructure (similar to USDC) for blockchain foundations .
b) On/off ramps for DeFi protocols, non-custodial wallets, and other web3 projects.
The result is that I not only have gained a strong overview of different DeFi ecosystems and industry trends via meetings with foundations themselves, but have met a wide range of DeFi projects in the space through on/off ramp sales calls. On top of this, I’ve attended numerous top-tier conferences, regularly attend meet-ups, and have been an avid researcher.
Areas of specialties include:
◉ Stablecoins
◉ Bridge architectures
◉ Layer 1’s (especially Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Aptos, and Cosmos)
◉ Layer 2’s
◉ Decentralized Applications: decentralized exchanges, borrowing/lending, liquid staking, derivatives and perp swaps, convertible debt positions, and so on.
◉ Oracles
◉ Interoperability Solutions
◉ Asset Tokenization
